More on Dahlias
Despite having rows and rows of dahlias already planted and popping up from a long winter’s nap, more dahlias have been ordered and are undergoing preliminary sprouting in pots.
Dahlias can be a little fussy in our Appalachian region. Our wet springs can rot tubers, so we pot them up and make sure they get adequate wet / dry growth until green sprouts are strong and healthy. These young shoots are then scooped out of their growing medium (pots or crates) and lowered into prepared beds in the field. Each tuber is labelled and mapped so if something goes wrong, we know what we lost.
We welcome Pink Pearl, Zundert Mystery Fox, Orieti Adele, Jowey Mirella, Doris Duke, Nicholas, Otto’s Thrill, Sweet Natalie, Polka, Puff n Stuff, Snoho jojo, Drummer Boy, Penhill Watermelon, A la Mode, Terracotta, Sierraglow, Blizzard, Red Runner, Rip City, Sheer Heaven and Cecil to our collection this year. Should be spectacular come July, August, September, & October.
Hopefully by then, we can offer a dahlia tour and be able to work together in the workshop to create some fun take home bouquets.
Till then, stay safe.
