May 20, 2020 - My little friend Rachel, graduates from High School!
Rachel named me DiDi years ago when she first began to speak. Deni was a tough one for her, so she changed it up and it stuck. Today, Miss Rachel Manweiler graduates from High School. It will be the shortest commencement ceremony I’ve ever attended; 5 minutes. She’ll walk in with 4 family members present. I’m the lucky friend who gets to attend. Others will wait outside with signs and banners and lots of horn honking! It will be an emotional gathering for sure.
To watch a child grow up is an amazing privilege and I’m honored to have had a hand in helping her. Rachel has been by my side almost every Saturday morning for the past 6 years; helping me run our flower stand at Farmer’s Market, since my own twin boys graduated high school (class of 2014). She happily greeted our customers, took their flower orders, payments, and wrapped up bouquets. During the Covid 19 outbreak, her role changed to “delivery specialist” and she has mastered the art of following GPS in many directions around town.
Today, we wish her CONGRATULATIONS and anticipate where she goes and what she does next. She’s been accepted to James Madison University and hopes to attend this fall; but time will tell. Such an uncertain world for young people.
Here’s to the Class of 2020! Nothing like a challenge to start your adult life.
With Love! DiDi & Tom (Todd) Kaleb & Mason, Lucy, Oban & the Professor!
